New Local Election Update

On November 11th at 6:37 PM, the San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters Office reported another update on the local elections. With 205,456 ballots (54.3%) counted so far, we have either close or clear winners in some local races. Here is a breakdown of the Stockton mayoral race:

Christina Fugazi, a longtime educator and former vice mayor, came in first place in the Stockton mayoral race with an approximate 2,000-vote lead. As of the recent update, she now leads with 4,400 votes compared to her opponent, Tom Patti, the current county supervisor for District 3, who came in first place in the March 5th primary, leading with a plurality of 34.3%. This was the result of a packed primary, with 6 candidates in total and 40,332 votes spread across them.

Although Tom Patti raised $268,386.00 since January 1, 2024, while Christina Fugazi raised $82,874.00 since January 1, 2024, it seems Stockton voters are making a clear decision, and that’s in electing Christina Fugazi as their next mayor.

Although each election isn’t certain, it’s safe to say that the candidates currently trending will likely take a seat at City Hall.

The three races listed below show some clear winners. First, in District 2, Mariella Ponce, a healthcare worker, came in first place against Waqar Rizvi, the current planning commissioner under Dan Wright, the current city council member for district 2. Since she is leading by nearly 20%, she is the clear winner for Stockton City Council District 2.

Second, Mario Enriquez, the director for identity and inclusion at the University of the Pacific, came in first in the Stockton City Council District 4 race against Gina Valadez-Bracamonte, a nonprofit executive director of Bread of Life. Although this city council race is within 400 votes, the likely winner is Mario Enriquez, as he continues to trend upward.

Lastly, Jason Lee, business owner and entrepreneur, came in first place against current Vice Mayor Kimberly Warmsley. This race in particular is interesting because, although Kimberly Warmsley is the current vice mayor and incumbent for District 6 (South Stockton), she lost by an incredible 1,424 votes, and Jason Lee, as of the current and most recent update, is leading by over 10%, which usually doesn’t happen against an incumbent.

Tell me, what are your thoughts on this election?
